To make a successful batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies you need to follow a recipe. You must add the ingredients in the proper proportions in order to avoid disastrous results,

Adding too much salt will destroy your cookies and having too many constituents in a legislative district will destroy a Constitutional Republic.

The founding father's recipe called for 1 representative for every thirty-thousand inhabitants, but today the size of the average Congressional Districts is around 800,000.

If you added 25 times more salt than required to a batch cookies you would ruin your batch of cookies,

If you were paid $20 per hour and you worked 10 hours you would have earned $200.  If your state had 1 representative for every 30,000 inhabitants and your state's population doubled the number of representatives would also double.
