The Constitution was written to limit the power and the potential abuse of those serving in the three branches of government. The founders incorporated a system of checks and balances and wall separating the powers of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government.
Due to the ignorance, apathy and neglect the people have allowed the branches to assume powers far exceeding those delegated to them in the Constitution.
Congress has surrendered to the President powers that were not enumerated in the Constitution. Most Executive Orders are unconstitutional. The President does have the lawful authority to make rules for the employees of the Executive Branch of government, but not laws that affect the lives of the people at large.
Congress spends trillions of dollars every year on programs and projects that are not authorized in the Constitution. Congress can only lawfully spend money to pay the debt, provide for the common defense and general welfare of the nation, Expenditures for anything else is unconstitutional.
Article V tells us the only way the Constitution can be changed or amended, yet Congress amends the Constitution ever time they pass a law that violates the Constitution. The President amends the Constitutions signing executive orders and the Supreme Court amends the Constitution by misinterpreting it.
