As a student in school I was taught that Monopolies were evil. My teachers told me that monopolies destroyed competition and that the people suffered whenvever they were compelled to do business with a monopoly.

My teachers explained that without competition the prices were higher and the products were inferior.

The only people that benefit from a monopoly are the owners and stockholders of the monopoly. One of the reasons our government was created was to protect "We the People" from the unfair practices of a monopoly. Why is it then that the government has created a Governmental Monopoly in Public Education.

If what my teachers told me is true, without competition the schools will produce poorer results at a much higher cost. If Public Education were handled at the local level there would be much more competition and the schools would have to earn their students by producing better results. The competition would drive the cost down while producing better results. When the Public Schools are not held accountable the quality of the education of our students suffer as a result.
