The first 69 Presidential Electors selected to choose our first President were men that were well known and highly respected for their honesty and integrity.
They were statesmen rather than politicians who were dedicated to serving their county and preserving the God-given rights of the people. Many of the electors had signed he Declaration of Independence, fought in the war for Independence and/or served in the Continental Congress or under the Articles of Confederation
The framers were opposed to the direct election of the President because they believed that the President should be chosen by a panel of wise men rather than the people at-large.
For this reason they devised a system known as the Electoral College where highly qualified men could be assigned the task to choosing the President.
They believed that it would be unwise to trust the multitude of uneducated and uninformed citizens with the task of choosing the nation's President.
They created the Electoral College in order to prevent the direct election of the President and the potential for the people in the large states from completely dominating the election of the President.
The system created to prevent the potential of a tyranny of a majority has become a tool in the hands of the enemies of our Constitution,
