When the Cops Were Peace Officers

My father as an alcoholic when I was very young. In a city of 80,000 my father was given a ride home by the cops on more than one occasion.

They did not put him in cuffs and haul him off to jail. They treated him the way the cops would want their own sons treated...with compassion.

I am sick and tired of seeing people cuffed up like animals. Sure there are some who are so out of control that they need the cuffs and the leg irons. But those are very few.

When I was a boy, Officer Fisher put his lights on and had Jeff Bork and I stop on Jeff's bike. I was on his handlebars. Cecil gave us a little talk

about safety and then gave us a citation. Jeff's dad and mine had to go down to the police station and watch a Jiminy Cricket movie on bicycle

safety. There was no cash payment to the city coffers. The cops cared about us and wanted us to be safe. Yes, Officer Fisher was there to show us the movie and talk with us. We stayed safe and we loved the cops.

We need to get back to treating people the way we want to be treated. Something about the Golden Rule seems to be missing these days.

That is why I am trying to write a book about cops like Cecil.

The County Sheriff is elected by the people to protect their lives liberty and property no to enforce rules, regulations, codes, ordinances and statutes. Law enforcement office's job is to be peace officers.

The Police Chief has is appointed by your City Council and is responsible to enforce rules and to issue citations to raise revenue for the city.

As I understand it, the County Sheriff is the only elected official who takes an oath to both state and federal Constitutions. Doesn't this mean that a sheriff could have arrested Hilllary, Lynch, etc.???

The job of the President is to enforce the laws passes by Congress and to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution, The President is the Chief Law in the nation and the County Sheriffs is the Chief Law Enforcement officer in your county.

Your county board of supervisors is the legislative branch of the government of your county and your sheriff is the your sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer in your county. Your county sheriff is for all intents and purposes the governor of your county.
