An affidavit is a voluntary, written declaration of facts made under oath or affirmation, signed by the declarant (affiant) in front of an authorized official, such as a notary public. Used as evidence in court or for legal, financial, and administrative matters, it serves as a sworn statement of truth, with false statements subject to penalties for perjury.
