We the States or We the People?

The delegates who attended the Constitutional Convention that met in Philadelphia were not chosen to represent the individual people of their respective states, they were chosen to represent the will of their state legislature.

The delegates were a collection of rich white men that wanted to preserve, protect and defend their wealth, power and prestige

After a hotly contested debate all of the staes finally agreed to ratifiy the Constitution, but  less than 1/10th of 1% of the people living in the unted States were allowed to vote on its ratification.

In the Declaration of Indepemdemce it was establshed that governments derive their just  power from the consent of the people who would be subject to its jurisdiction.

For the Constitution to be a  legally binding contract the the consent of 9 of the 13 states was required. Eventually all 13 of the states voted in favor of the ratifcation of the Constitution.
