Article I Section 8 Clause 9

No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

The Titles of Nobility Amendment was proposed in 1810 and was passed in the Senate by a vote of 27 to 1 and 87 to 3 in the House of Representatives. Never before or since has a proposed amendment received such overwhelming support.

The purpose of the amendment was to prevent individuals from having positions which afforded them special rights and privileges that were not available to all from holding office in our sacred institutions. They wanted to prevent public officials from accepting gifts or emoluments, so they would not be compromised or bribed.

Wouldn't you agree that Congress is violating this because of the pressure, threats and/or payments made by lobbyists?
