Contrary to what you have been taught the primary cause of the American Revolution was not "Taxation without Representation" as much as it was the result of the economic depression caused by the Currenvy Act of 1764 

Due to the scarcity of gold in the colonies they were forced to borrow the money needed to pay their taxes  from, the London Bankers.
