amy Act of 1882, also known as the Edmunds Act, was a federal law that made polygamy a felony in US territories. The law was passed in response to the practice of polygamy by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).
Accprdimg to the provisions of the Tenth Amendment the powers not granted to the Federal Government are reserved to the legislatures of the states. The aurhority of the Federal government to ban poligamy in the states is a power recerbed to the states. The Edmunds Anti Poligamy Act needs to be reoealed and an Anti Poligamy Amendment needs to be added to the Constitution.
According to the First Amendment the people's right to practice their religion wothout gpvernmental interference. Marriage is considered to be a religioys ordinance and Federal laws that regulate marriage are unconstitutional.
