The Toothless Tiger

Lysander Spooner observed that the Constitution either created the government that we now have or was powerless to prevent it.

The reason the Constitution has become a toothless tiger is because it has failed to protect us from the abuse of power by the ruling class. It has failed because we let it.

The Constitution is only as strong as the people's determination to be free. If the people want to be free they must take the responsibility to hold elected officials accountable. If they fail to do so the elected officials will continue  to violate the Constitution without consequences. It is not the Constitution that needs to be held responsible, it is the people. Unless we insist that the rulebook is followed we will continue being slaves in the land of the free. As long as we allow it they will continue passing legislation which will benefit their friends at the expense of the people.

Only a moral and virtuous people are capable of freedom and due to apathy, ignorance and neglect we gave squandered the gift of liberty which was purchased with the blood of our ancestors; American and otherwise.

The problem is that whenever government is created, the vast majority of the people become subject/slaves to a ruling class. In any society where the people do not posess equal rights and treatment under the law, there will always be masters and slaves. Today the representatives of the financial elite write the laws and the rest of us are expected to comply and when we do we our giving our consent.

When God gave us liberty he also required that we govern ourselves or be ruled by tyrants. George Washington once said "Government is like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master."

He realized that if a government was not confined to its proper role it would become a tyrannical force which would destroy rather than defend the rights of the people.

The Forum does not allow me to "Reply" to Zeke Layman so I can reply here: perhaps.

"And that NO is because you are not my child."

Both my parents have died, so the dive into ego is noted as more of the same.

15 minutes to "Edit" where I clicked on the "Reply" button under my last offering of words: and the "Reply" ends up after Zeke Layman's last offer of words.

If English words mean something then the Bill of Rights ought to be acknowledged in any case. If not, then "no" does not mean no according to those who issue orders to be obeyed without question: because they can.

The problem is getting people educated to reality.  How do we do that?  I don't have any answers.

Ever watch Waters World on the O'Reilly Factor?

Host a Constitution Class.  The American View has a host kit with videos, and every participant should by the Student Manual.  You don't have to 'know' the information, just play the video lectures and discuss.  Meetup would be a great way to promote the class.

If Al Capone and his cohorts got together in the 1920's and submitted an offer to the American people in which they promised they would only lie on Tuesdays, cheat on Thursdays and kill people on the weekends would you have agreed to their terms?

This is similar to what happened in Philadelphia in September of 1787 when a group of wealthy white men who were representing other rich white men submitted the plans for a new government which they claimed would strengthen the government for the benefit of the people. Unfortunately this new government created a curling class and a class of commoners. The rich white men would write the laws to benefit themselves and their cronies while expecting the rest of us to do as we were told. This document converted our rights into privileges granted to us by the newly created state.

The government which was supposed to have  been created to protect the rights of the people instantly became a tool the could you to enslave us.

Why call defense against crime a word that means the opposite of defense against crime such as "state" or "government" when you mean to convey meaning concerning criminals perpetrating crimes upon victims?

The voluntary defense associations (13 at the time) prior to the 1787 crime forming a volunteer defense federation were called states which were republican forms of government each with people knowing their rights as their individual powers to command at will.

Of course there were people then, now, and in the future who will  not get it.

I very well agree. In addition I ponder this, if we had a way to pull citizens out of the poisonous fruit the government's laid out, in many forms of federal handouts, (i believe these are the most powerful tools that they use today to create pacifism and deteriorate self worth) would they stand up for themselves? Even if they could be shown the powers we poses would they actually leave the governmental spigot to embrace these powers and freedom that are granted to milk their own cow? The generations behind me leave me little hope that the motivators from within that drive militias and patriots will exist in forty years, the ability to "decipher" the constitution will be long gone I fear.

If it is crime then why call it "fruit the government laid out"?

If the bait is taken then the victims call the criminals the government and then the victims are defenseless to find a word that works to convey what does defend against the criminals.

At least the new generation has no idea as to what is or is not government since all they see now is crime. The new generation can be inspired to find a new word for defense against crime since government has already been stolen.

There's some good ideas in the book Restoring America One County At A Time by Joel McDurmon.

That is a really good book. I saw some of McDurmons videos on the web and agreed with his perception of each of us understanding God's Law within ourselves.

Not sure where to post this so guess this is a good as place as any.  A friend just found this I hope you watch this movie. Amazing how prophetic people can be and God uses both the evil and righteous for his perfect will to be done.

In a distant future, egalitarianism has created a truly equal state. The cost? The sacrifice of everything great about humankind. The question: is peace worth the price?

"All men are not created equal. It is the purpose of the Government to make them so." This is the premise of the Showtime film adaption of Kurt Vonnegut's futuristic short story Harrison Bergeron. The film centers around a young man (Harrison) who is smarter than his peers, and is not affected by the usual "Handicapping" which is used to train all Americans so everyone is of equal intelligence. Written by Glenn Kurtzrock .................

I saw this movie on TV one evening, probably even missed the start of it. I had no idea what it was, and it had the familiar TV-movie feel but it also had something compelling which kept my interest so I sat and watched it through.

I was amazed by this film, partly because of the scope, partly because of the parallels I could see in the world around me (which have only increased since), partly because it was so apparently innocent and unassuming and partly because I had never seen or heard of it before. It took me by surprise. I think I realized shortly after that it was written by the respected Sci-Fi author K.V. and that I should really have read the story sometime. Oh well. You can't catch them all.

However, much time passed and I forgot the name of the movie (it doesn't exactly stick in the mind) and I forgot which of the famous authors seeded it - but I didn't forget the content. From time to time I would ask somebody 'did you ever see that film...' and always got a blank response. I just remembered the author today and traced the name, which brings me here.

All I can say is this - watch it, and at the same time think about the last time you watched mainstream television 'entertainment'. If the parallels doesn't make your skin CRAWL, well - put the BAND back on...

In a distant future, egalitarianism has created a truly equal state.

Why are crimes called anything other than crimes since that type of mislabeling always serves the criminals interests at the expense of everyone, including the criminals?
