The counties in the former British Colonies were represented in their respective state legislatures in 1776,
The delegates did not represent the people the represent theie respective communities.
Following the Declaration of Independence, the former colonies each wrote a state Constitution.
 They revised their existing colonial legislatures (or "provincial governments ") into new state legislative bodies.
