Representation is the Foundarion of Liberty
The single most important right of the people is the right to be fairly and adequately represented in Congress and in their state legislatures.
In 1961 Florida had a population of 5,243,000 and had 94 representatives in the state legislature, The people had 1 representatives for every 55,776 residents and were fairly and adequately represented.
When Florida adopted a new Constitution in 1968 the state's population had grown to 6.643,000 and as a result 26 new legislative districts were added to maintain a proper ratio between the number of representatives and the number of people being properly represented.
Today, Florida has a population of 21,780,000 and still has the same number of representatives that we had in 1968. The population of Florida has nearly quadrupled, but the number of representatives has remained constant.
If Florida's House of Representatives was properly apportioned we would have 432 representatives instead of only 120. The political power that rightfully belonhgs to the people has been transferred to an oligarchy of politicians that are controlled by bankers, lawyers and Wall Street corporations.
Alabama's state legislature has one representative for every 46,000 and Georgia has representative for every 54,000 while Florida has one representative for every 181,000.
If everyone's vote is supposed to be equal, why are the people in some states so poorly represented?
The average ratio for all 50 states is approximarely 50,000 to 1.
The three states that have the worst ratio od representatives to the number of people they represent are California, Texas and Florida.
