The cost of living since 1955 has has skyrocketed. A McDonald's hamburger, fries and a drink cost 35 cents. A Hersheys candy bar cost just 5 cents and an ounce of gold cost just 35 dollars,

Today the an ounce of gold costs over $3,000 . The minimum wage was 75 cents per hour and a three bedroom home could be rented for about $49 per month. and  gasoline could be purchased for 29 cents per gallon.

You could mail a letter for 3 cents in 1955 but today the cost of mailing a letter has risen has to 73 cents. Today the Post Master General is paid over $500,000 per year.

The average public school teacher earned $4,995  and Congressmen that are paid $174,000 per year were paid $22,500 in 1955
