In the 1796 Presidential Election John Adams received all 12 of New York's electoral votes and in 1800 election Thomas Jefferson received all of New York's 12 electoral votes. Apparently John Adams had more popular votes in 1796, Thomas Jefferson had more statewide popular votes in 1800.;
The awarding all of the electoral votes to the candidate with the most popular statewide votes allowed Adams to win an election by a margin of 71 to 68
In the election of 1800 because of the 3/5th Compromise the slave states were granted 14 extra electors of which 12 voted for Jefferson. Instead of winning the election 73 to 65 Adams should have won by a margin of 67 to 61.
Other fraudulent elections took place in 1824, 1876, 2004 and in 2020.
