Sovereignty means supreme power or authority. In the context of a nation or state, it signifies the authority to govern itself without external interference. A sovereign entity has the power to make its own laws, control its territory, and manage its affairs without being subject to the control or jurisdiction of another state.
It was the intent of the men who wrote the Constitution to create a more perfect union where the rights of the people could be secure.
The Founders created a system of checks and balances where the potential abuse of power could be prevented.
They created a Federal government where the central government was delegated a short list of enumerated powers and the state governments retained all powers not delegated to the National government.
The representatives of the states creatod the Constitution and the government it created was designed to be a government contolled by the states. and the people.
The men who wrote the Constitution understood the dangers of monarchies and democracies and wanted to the people to be governed by the rule of law rather than on the whims of a ruling class.
Because Monarchies and Democracies give rise to tyranny, our founders knew that men in positions of power could not be trusted with unlimited power. Their greed and lus for power would tuen them into tyrants.
THe creation of a bicameral legislature was a humongous mistake. It planted the seeds of democracy which is in the process of destroing what is left of our Constitutional Republic.
Under the Articles of Confederation we had a unicameral legislature where each of the states were equally represented and each state had one vote. For a bill to become a law it required the appeovl of 9 of 13 States.
Today, only a simple majority is required and as a rersult Congress has passed over 30,000 bills and/or resolution sinxe Congress first net in 1789. Is this limited governement.
