Bring Back the Articles of Confederation

Under the Articles of Confederation the Unued States has a Republican form of government with a Congress consisting of a unicameral  legislature.

The delegates at the Constitutional Convention decided to add to Congress a House of Representatives who be elected by the people in direct democratic elections.

In the Articles of Cederation each state iwas entitled to a delegation of between two and seven members. Members of Congress are to be appointed by state legislatures. No congressman may serve more than three out of any six years.

In direct democratic elections, if the voters are ignorant and uninformed the most popular and least qualified candidate likely to get elected.

With the Articles of Confederation all laws passed by Congress needed to be approved by three-fourths of the states.

Bigger is not necessarily better and eliminating the House of Representatives and having the states choose their senators is my suggestion to restore our republic.

The Constitutional Convention was called to amend the Articles of Confederation, but delegates violated the existing Constitution when they abolished the government under the Articles of Confederation and drafted a new Constitution.

According to the Articles in order to make changes in the Constitution iy would take the unanimous approval of all of the 13 states. 

In order to ratify the new Constitution, the delegates knew that getting approval of all 13 states virtually impossible sp they arbitrarily decided that the approval of only 9 of 13 states would be required to ratify the Constition.

Since Comgress first met on March 4th in 1789 Congress has passed over 30,000 Federal Laws and/or resolutions. Every bill signed by the President should comply with the powers enumerated in the Constitution.

There are over 10,000 bills and resolutions currently being considered before the United States Congress, but of those only 27 bills that were signed into law in 2023, President Joe Biden vetoed 9 bills. in 2023. There have been 2,593 presidential vetoes since 1789 and only 112 were over turned.

Any Congressional legislation that benefits some of the people at the expense of others is unconstitutional,

The Constitution only allows Comgress to collect taxes to pay our debts, provide for our common defense and promote the general welfare, Collecting taxes for any other purpose is prohibited.

In 2023 Congrss passed bills and spent 10 trillion dollars  and had to had to borrow over three trilliom dollars just to balamce the budget.

Before the President signs any bill into law he should determine if the bill complies with the Constitution, and if it can be funded without having to go deeper in debt.

Our Nation now has a National debt of over 30 trillion dollars and must pay over 5 trillion dollars this year in interest to finance the debt. If Congress directed the Treasury Deoartment to issue our money we would not need to borrow money to fund the government.

The job of Congress is to protect our rights, not to provide us with benefits paid for with other people's money.
