The U.S. measures poverty by comparing an individual's or family's income to a federal threshold. In 2023, the federal poverty level (FPL) is $14,580 for individuals, $19,720 for a family of two, $24,860 for a family of three, and $30,000 for a family of four. In 2024, the FPL is $15,060 for individuals, $20,440 for a family of two, $25,820 for a family of three, and $31,200 for a family of four.
