The Power to Tax
By giving Congress to the power to tax the people directly without their consent, would have given them a license to steal.
The Constitution clearly prohibits the direct taxation of the people by the Federal government
Section 9:
Powers Denied Congress
No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or Enumeration..
Taking the fruits of a man's labor without his consent is a form of involuntary servitude which is prohibited in the 13th Amendment.
No person can lawfully be deprived ot the lives, liberty or property unless they have given their consent or have been found guilty of a crime.
Compelling people to pay taxes without their consent is simply a legal way to steal property.
