Florida became the 27th state on March 3, 1845. Florida has had six constitutions adopted in the years 1812, 1838, 1861, 1868, and 1885, and 1968. The sixth and current version was ratified by voters at the November general election in 1968.

By 1968, the 1885 Florida Constitution had grown to 55,000 words. Because it could no longer do its job, Floridians trimmed it down that year to 23,000 words by adopting a fully modernized constitution. Unfortunately, it has since grown to over 44,000 words.

U.S. Constitution has just 7 Articles                        Florida's Comstitution has 12 Articles.

U.S, Comstitution has 27 Amendments                     Florida Constitution has 144 Amendments

U.S. Comstitution has 4,453 words.                          Florida Constitution has over 44,000 words.

How can public servants be expected to honor an oah to preserve, protect amd defend such a document. Florida's  state Constititon needs to be rewritten, Perhaps it should be rewritten every 20 or 30 years..
